TVP Italian "Beef"

John Thomas's go-to high-protein dinner. TVP soaks up water right in the pan, then simmers in tomato and basil sauce with green beans, nutritional yeast and Italian seasoning. Eat it over pasta, rice or a salad.

Method

  1. 1

Add the TVP to a hot pan and pour in the water. Let it soak up the water for a few minutes, until it has expanded.

  2. 2

Stir in the tomato and basil sauce.

  3. 3

Add the green beans, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring, until everything is hot.

  4. 4

Serve over pasta, rice or a salad. For some healthy fat, cook it with a little olive or avocado oil.

Storage

Keeps 4 days in the fridge. Make a double batch for lunches.

Good to know
  • Beyond or Impossible ground works too. Swap it above.
  • Soaking the TVP in the pan with water first is what keeps it tender. Never fry it dry.
